"Life is a Highway," by Rascal Flatts

Well, life's like a road that you travel on
There's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind

There's a world outside every darkened door
Where Blues won't haunt you anymore
For the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore

We won't hesitate
To break down the guarding gate
There's not much time left today, yeay

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights

They knock me down
And back up again
You're in my blood
I'm not a lonely man
There's no load I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, yeah

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (mmmm yeah)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

There was a distance between you and I
(between you and I)
A misunderstanding once
But now, we look it in the eye

Ooooo...Yeah!

There ain't no load that I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (all night long, yeah hey)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, yeah
In “Life is a Highway,” by Rascal Flatts, I think the whole song means that life is a bumpy place to be in. Life is never easy. You will have some sad moments but what’s left of it is what you make it. “Life’s like a road that you travel on, when there’s one day here and the next day gone, sometimes you bend sometimes you stand,” I think means, in your life you will make mistakes and you will someday turn your back on someone or something. But, live your life everyday like it was your last. “Life is a Highway,” I think means everyone at some point, struggles through life. People everyday make hard choices that always come back to you. “Knock me down, an’ back up again,” I think means if you fail at something, don’t give up on it. It’s your life. Make it what you want to make it. No one can tell you what to do. “There was a distance between you and I a misunderstanding once but now we look it and the eye,” I think means if you feel like your heart is breaking, talk to that person or talk to anyone. Look at them face to face and tell them what’s on your mind.

I chose these lyrics because this song has an inspiration on everyone. This song shows life as a different way, and from a different point of view. What I like about the song is that Rascal Flatts compared life to a highway. I think that no one has ever had looked at life and compared it to a highway. The song sparks a memory of when I was younger. My daddy was teaching me how to ride a bike. The part, “Knock me down, an’ back up again,” reminds me of when I fell down a million of times, but I never gave up. Not giving up helped me to ride a bike. If you fall, don’t ever give up. Keep trying. Every time I think or listen to this song, I think of all of the fun times I have with my friends, family, and all of the other people in my life.
